The energy performance certificate
produces a consumer friendly rating similar to the rating used for
white goods. The factors considered during the epc are;
- Heating
- Water heating
- Build type
- Windows
- Insulation levels
- Lighting
- Property dimensions
The aim is to provide a figure similar to the miles per gallon
figure used to indicate the energy performance of a car. This can
be used as a guide to make energy saving improvements to the home
and to give any prospective buyer a direct energy comparison between
properties. This information is also used to work out the carbon
emissions created when using the home.
Energy saving improvements not only reduce fuel bills, by reducing
energy consumption greenhouse gasses are also reduced.
The certificate also gives assumed running costs for the home per
annum for heating, hot water and lighting. And also indicates energy
saving measures and their annual saving.
